The most obvious Synanon methods used within the Phoenix House program are the stripping of your identity on admission, encounter groups (called The Game by Synanon and Phoenix House), work-based treatment. In 1983, Phoenix House opened its first Phoenix House Academy, a residential high school where teens receive substance abuse treatment as well as daily on-site academic education. Since 2016, Phoenix House Orange County has been Drug Medi-Cal-certified for residential and outpatient, non-perinatal treatment (Certification No. 8047). Since 2022, Phoenix House Orange County Inc. The Brooklyn Community Recovery Center is a peer-driven drug and alcohol addiction recovery support center created in collaboration with state and local community-based organizations. These services can range from weekly individual sessions to enhanced outpatient services. Enhanced outpatient services will include more frequent individual sessions and/or group therapy. Recovery is an on-going process and the goal of treatment isn’t simply to eliminate substance use—it’s to help the person with addiction continue to move forward in life – outpatient care is key to recovery.
